"A shooter, a shooter, my kingdom for a shooter." The cry was not audible but you could see it written all over Coach Sarandrea. Time after time tonight the Canes stole the ball from the Bridgers and missed their ensuing shot or free throws.

For nearly four quarters the Hurricanes couldn’t buy a bucket until with 13 seconds left to play in the game and trailing by three points Matt Conti was set up for a three point shot. BANG. He nailed it and the Canes were still alive. The score was tied at 40. Turnovers by each team with under three seconds to play sent the game to overtime.

After Ambridge missed to start the four minute overtime Conti hit another ‘three’ to give the Canes the lead at 3:18. With 2:23 to play Jory Malone hit one of two free throws and the New Castle lead was four.

Ambridge then responded with a ‘two’ to narrow the lead. With the Canes slowing things down Mike Pagley was fouled and went to the line to shoot ‘one and one’ at 1:33. He missed the first and Ambridge rebounded.

Trailing by two with 1:00 left the Bridgers now went to the free throw line to shoot two. Both shots were missed and New Castle came down with the rebound and was fouled. This time Conti stepped to the line to shoot two with just 51 seconds to play. Again the Canes came up empty as Conti missed them both.

Ambridge grabbed the rebound but missed their next shot and then quickly fouled Pagley at the 31 second mark. Pagley missed both free throws but the Hurricanes came away with the ball and Pagley was fouled again.

This time he made them both and the Canes were ahead 46 - 42 with 25 seconds to play.

Ambridge had two more possessions scoring once with three second left and the Canes just held the ball out of bounds as time expired.

The great escape was accomplished, Hurricanes 46 Bridgers 44.
