Ten games into the season one would expect to see many positive changes and improvements. The same problems the Hurricanes had a the beginning of the season, ball handling and shooting are still present. The ball handling was not unexpected but the shooting woes are not understandable. This afternoon both were present in a 42 - 37 loss, to Washington-Lee High School in the Mt. Lebanon Christmas Tourney, as the Canes dropped their second in a row and third in their last four.

In a mistake filled first half by both teams the Canes held the lead most of the time and led at halftime 21-15. The first half was marred by a total of 30 turnovers by the two teams.

The Canes maintained the lead in the third and were up eight, 24-16 at 6:42. Washington-Lee kept creeping up on New Castle throughout the period taking advantage of the Hurricanes missed shots and turnovers. Finally Washington-Lee tie the Canes at 28 with 2:00 minutes left in the third. A Dom Joseph ‘two’ put New Castle back on top but the Generals nailed a ‘three’ with under a minute left in the period and held a 31-30 lead after three quarters.

New Castle made the first to baskets of the fourth to regain the lead 34-31. But two more Hurricane turnovers led to a ‘two’ and a ‘three’ by the Generals and a 36-34 lead at 4:26.

The Canes got to within one point twice and had the ball, but missed shots each time to allow the opportunities to get away.

The Hurricanes lost to Washington-Lee 42-37.
