New Castle dropped the semi-final game of the Mt. Lebanon Christmas Tourney after leading much of the game.

Tuesday versus Brookline, Mass. the Canes had the lead earl and held the lead for most of the game. The Hurricanes led by as much as seven in the first period and were up 13 - 10 at the end of one.

The Canes scored six straight to open the second period and were up by nine with just 1:30 gone in the quarter. The next three minutes belonged to Brookline though as a 10 - 0 run by the Warriors gave them the lead 20 - 19.

Joe Carter then hit a free throw at 2:15 to bring the Canes back even at 20.

Brookline with two straight scores, answered by only a Mark Cook free throw took a 26 -23 lead and held that three point lead at the half.

The Warriors scored first to open the second half but the Canes behind a Conti ‘three’ and a Lewis steal and lay-up tied the game at 30. Brookline hit a ‘two’ then Cook nailed a ‘three’ to put the Canes up 33 - 32. A Brookline ‘three’ gave them back the lead but New Castle out scored them 7 - 4 in the rest of the period to lead 40 - 39 after three periods.

New Castle moved out to a 47 - 41 lead after just one minute and were quickly ahead by 10 after scores by Lewis and Cook. Brookline scored the next eight points to cut the lead to two with 2:30 to play. The Canes missed two free throws at 3:57 that could have stopped the run earlier.

Neither team scored in the next minute until Brookline stole the ball and laid it in to tie the game at 51.

The Canes took a shot with 35 seconds left but it was blocked and Brookline took possession. Lewis returned the favor by blocking the Warriors next shot but on a controversial call was called for a foul. With 24 seconds left Warriors made both free throws to take a 53 - 51 lead.

New Castle set up Mark Cook for a drive to the hoop. He missed the shot but was fouled and went to the line with 13 seconds left with a chance to tie the game. Cook missed both free throws, culminating a 2 for 10 night at the line for the Canes.

The Hurricanes sent the Warriors to the line twice more but Brookline made all four shots making the final, 57 - 53.
