Playing without their leading scorer, leading rebounder, leading shot blocker, steals leader (that's not four different people - it's Devin Taylor) the Canes were no match for 5th ranked AA team in the state Aliquippa.

The Canes held All-Everything and Pitt football recruit Darrelle Revis to 15 points but that barely slowed the Quips in their 72-45 pounding of the Hurricanes.

The Quips outscored the Canes in every quarter which is not surprising since just as in the North Allegheny game the Canes shot only 27 percent from the field and turned the ball over 23 times.

Brian Bober scored the first five points for the Canes as the game plan seemed to be to go inside to him where he had a size advantage. He made his first two attempts from the field and hit one of two free throws, after being fouled on his next shot. But after he missed his next couple shots he was replaced in the lineup and the inside game disappeared.

The Canes trailed 20-13 after the first quarter.

New Castle missed their first ten shots of the second period and didn’t make a field goal until there were just 29 seconds left in the quarter when Bober scored again to make it 33-16.

The most exciting moment of the game came seconds later as Mike Malley followed a Quip miss by throwing one from three-quarter court as time expired to give the Canes 19 points at the half.

The Canes played Aliquippa even for most of the third quarter and closed to within 12 points at the 2:21 mark before the Quips extended the lead out to 15 points after three periods, 49-34.

After falling behind by more than twenty with three minutes gone in the fourth the Canes substituted freely.

Donovan Jones led the Canes in scoring with 10 points.
