Canes Beat Jeannette Sign
the Red Hurricanes Report Guestbook
The Hurricanes chance to become only the second three-time defending champion of the Blackhawk Christmas Tourney almost came to an early end tonight in the opening game of the prestigious tournament against AA Jeannette. A season of inconsistency for the Hurricanes continued along the same tack as the Canes went from good to bad to good and back again before holding on for a 62-57 win. The Canes played the first half with just five turnovers while turning it over 12 times in the second half. New Castle made only 12 of 27 shots in the first half but made six of eight shots in the fourth quarter. However only seven of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter kept the outcome in question until the final moments but the Red Hurricanes were able to avoid an upset. New Castles victory sets up a rematch of a game earlier this season, the Canes won easily, against the Ellwood City Wolverines. Ellwood City beat Kennedy Catholic 43-41 to gain the right to face the Canes. Butler and Connellsville will face off in the other semi-final. The Canes started poorly missing their first three shots.
