Home Sweet Home Sign
the Red Hurricanes Report Guestbook
Home Sweet Home, Home is where the heart is, Theres no place like home. There are many ways to say it but "New Castle 55 North Hills 46" is just as good as any. The Canes played their first home game of the season after renovations to the Fieldhouse reached a level of completion to allow play to resume. New Castle needed all of the home cooking they could get after having trouble getting started (going scoreless for the first 2:39 of the first quarter, fortunately North Hills was just as bad) then running to a 14-2 lead over the next two minutes and 24 seconds. But then not scoring again for the next six minutes and 38 seconds until David Richards scored at the 4:22 mark of the second quarter. It didnt get much better during the rest of the period as Richards scored the only other two points the Canes could muster, and after leading by 12 in the first quarter New Castle trailed at halftime 19-18. The renovated locker rooms must have somewhat inspired the Hurricanes at halftime as they came out and tripled their second quarter output, scoring 12 points, on two threes by Richards and baskets by Keenan Moore, Chris Harvey and Devin Taylor. Problem is North Hills also scored 12 points in the third quarter and they still led by one, 31-30 after three periods. North Hills extended their lead to 37-32 with 5:08 to play but the Canes bounced back with a two by Taylor and two free throws by Moore to get within one, 37-36. Following an Indians turnover Moore hit a three putting the Canes ahead by two. But four straight free throws by North Hills put the Indians back up by two with 2:53 to play. The Canes went to the line to shoot two with 2:36 left and missed them both, but Chris Harvey grabbed the missed shot and Richards drilled a three to give the lead back to New Castle 42-41. The Indians got the ball deep underneath on their next possession and were poised to retake the lead when Sophomore Demetrius Searcy (a surprise starter tonight instead of Brian Bober) blocked the shot and Taylor grabbed the ball and was fouled. And as they did earlier this season, the Canes made just enough free throws to win along with another block by Searcy edged away for the 55-46 victory. North Hills and New Castle entered the game with identical section records 1-3.
