New Castle rolls over Penn Hills Next Game - Sign
the Red Hurricane Report Guestbook On the coldest night of the winter so far this year the Hurricanes took an extra long time to warm up tonight in the New Castle Fieldhouse. Facing the Penn Hills Indians in a non-section game the Canes led the game from the start but could have made things a lot easier had they not missed 14 of their first 21 shots from the field in the first quarter, including only one for eight from behind the three point arc. New Castle did finally heat up as they shot 56% the rest of the way and easily beat the Indians 84-60. Dom Joseph started the scoring for the Hurricanes and that was a sign of things to come as he went on to score 31 points. Penn Hills tied the game at two at 7:31 then Joseph made two free throws to give the Canes the lead. Joe Carter and Hoover Gibson each scored before the Indians got on the board again, giving New Castle an 8-2 lead with four minutes gone in the period. Gibson and Joseph combined for all nine of the Canes points the rest of the period as the Hurricanes led 17-12 after one. Carter scored the first two points of the second quarter followed by a three from Dante Spino and the Hurricanes went on to out score the Indians 19-13 in the second to extend their lead to 36-25 at the half. Joseph had 16 points at the break mostly on some good moves inside the paint and drives to the hoop. Penn Hills narrowed the gap to five points early in the third quarter before the Canes went on a 16-2 run to get the lead out to 19, 53-34. The Indians closed the period with a flurry and got the margin back to 13, 55-42 after three. Joseph opened the fourth quarter with his fourth consecutive basket followed by a Spino three and a Mark DeMonaco lay in after he stole the inbounds and the Canes lead was quickly 20, 62-42. New Castle poured it on in the fourth scoring 29 points hitting 10 of 13 shots from the field for the runaway victory 84-60. Dom Joseph scored 31 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Joseph could have had even more as he went only seven of 14 from the free throw line. Leon Ward added 12 points while Hoover Gibson and Joe Carter each had 10. Mark DeMonaco added nine but for the first time this year he missed two free throws in a game. .
