Hurricanes roll Rams Next Game - Sign
the Red Hurricane Report Guestbook The Red Hurricanes opened Section 3 playing the greatly out-manned Pine-Richland Rams. Fortunately for the Canes that was the case, as they offset a 39% shooting night (27 of 70) by hauling in 36 rebounds and were able to win by 23, 70-47. For the second game in a row the Canes were as lackluster in their play as they were exciting and intense against George Junior and Warren Harding. Hopefully rising or lowering to the level of their competition isnt a pattern. After Pine-Richland tied the game at five at 4:52 the Canes outscored the Rams 15-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 20-9 after one. Dante Spino and Mark DeMonaco each had eight points in the period. During the second period the Canes hit seven field goals but only out-pointed the Rams 18-17 in the quarter as Pine-Richland made 11 free throws, the Canes shot none. At the half New Castle led 38-26. New Castles shooting in the third period was abysmal as the Canes made only four of 23 shots from the field. Dom Joseph was two of nine, DeMonaco 0 of two, Spino 0 for three, Ward 0 for three. Joe Carter and Vojtech Hybler each did have buckets in the period. As always though the Canes played defense and held the Rams to just 10 points. After three quarters the Hurricanes lead was 13, 49-36. Joseph turned things around in the final period leading the Canes with 13 points going four for four from the field and five of six from the free throw line. The defense held Pine-Richland to only 11 points in the quarter with the Rams getting only two points in the last four minutes of the game. Dom Joseph led the Canes 22 points and pitched in with seven rebounds. Dante Spino had 15 points while Leon Ward making his debut added 12. Hoover Gibson hauled down 10 rebounds. With the return of Leon Ward the biggest problem Coach Sarandrea had was finding enough minutes for everyone. The Canes are literally eight deep with "Hurricanes starter quality" players and reserves that would be starters on any other team in the section. .
