Finally Cage Elusive Foxes Next Game Sign
the Red Hurricane Report Guestbook The defending WPIAL Champion Canes were taking on the Quad North doormats. No contest right? Thats why they play the games. Fox Chapel took advantage of three New Castle turnovers and filled the air with footballs to lead at the half 14-10. Even KDKA weatherman Jon Burnett, who was master of ceremonies at the Foxes homecoming, was excited for Fox Chapel as he pointed at the scoreboard and said, "Thats the defending WPIAL champs. In your face New Castle." New Castle started playing like champions in the fourth period scoring three times to finally cage the Foxes 31-17. The Red Hurricanes opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 24 yard Pasquale Romano field goal. Fox Chapel responded with a 26 yard touchdown pass to take a 7-3 lead. A 60 yard run by Greg Cameron (filling in for an injured John Rosati) put the Canes back on top in the second period 10-7. The Foxes again answered, this time with a 16 yard run by QB. John Aitken and Fox Chapel was on top 14-10 at the half. The third quarter was uneventful (except for the Canes losing two more fumbles) as a Fox Chapel 40 yard field goal was the extent of the scoring but the Foxes now led 17-10. New Castle was able to run all night (finishing with 428 yard on the ground) and continued to do it in the fourth period. Now however, with good results. With just 1:09 gone in the fourth Corey Lemmon optioned to keep it and ran around the left end for an 81 yard scoring romp. A good PAT by Romano and the game was tied at 17. Sean Runyon picked off a Fox Chapel pass at the Foxes 33 and the Canes were on a roll. Just four plays later Justin Sheldon (who finished with 177 yards) carried it in from 12 yards out and New Castle took the lead for good. Buoyed by their earlier success the Foxes would not go away. A 46 yard completion got the ball all the way to the Hurricane 19 yard line. But two plays later Devon James picked off a pass ending the threat. New Castles massive line led the Canes back down the field as they marched 90 yards in eight plays just handing the ball to Sheldone up the middle. Sheldone finished the drive by going the last 43 yards for the score leaving at least one Fox defender asking for the number of that truck or ox as Lemmon called Sheldone. Romanos PAT provided the final margin, 31-17 Canes. The Canes now (5-2, 4-1) virtually assured themselves of a playoff spot for the second
year in a row. Fox Chapel is now (0-7, 0-5). |
