Canes sink Commodores Next Game - Saturday December 2 vs George Jr. Republic Sign
the Red Hurricane Report Guestbook Even Commodore Perry himself would have given up the ship in the face of the Hurricane that blew threw the New Castle Field House tonight in the opening game for both the New Castle Red Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Traditional Academy Commodores. Starting four juniors and a freshman the Canes had nine players see considerable action in an offense that just ran and ran and ran. Dom Joseph got things rolling for the Canes while a swarming defense looked to be in midseason form as New Castle dismantled Perry 68 41. Joseph scored the Canes first three baskets to put the Hurricanes up 6-2 with two minutes gone. A basket and free throw got Perry back to within one but that was as close as they would get as the Canes sailed away with eight straight points to end the period to lead 14-5 after one. The second quarter started with Joseph hitting another hoop and Mark DeMonaco splitting a pair of free throws to give the Canes a 12 point lead. Five points in the period by Mike Pagley helped New Castle extend their lead to 35-19 at the half. Mark Cook heated up from behind the arc in the third period hitting three threes for 13 points in the period leading the Hurricanes to a 25 point lead after three quarters 58-33. The scoring pace slowed in the fourth with the Canes out pointing the Commodores 10-9 to seal the win. Tomorrow night the Canes will take on George Jr. Republic a 59-49 winner over the WPIAL's #1 team Uniontown. Uniontown which played without two starters lead early but fell victim to GJR's superior height. .
